Intium secures connection contract for 32MW Mulwala Solar Farm

National energy innovator Intium continues to contribute to Australia’s transition to a sustainable clean energy future with latest project

SYDNEY, Australia, 1 October, 2025Intium, an Australian company focusing on delivering transformative change across complex and emerging energy services, has today announced a major connection contract for the 32MW Mulwala Solar Farm.

Intium, the High Voltage infrastructure specialist, has been awarded a Build, Own, Operate and Maintain (BOOM) contract by European Energy Australia for the delivery of connection infrastructure at the 32MW Mulwala Solar Farm, in southern New South Wales.

The project, located near Lambruk, 2 km north of Mulwala, will see Intium deliver the full connection scope including the design, procurement, installation, testing and commissioning of a 22kV switching station. This includes a two-kilometre underground cable linking the Solar Farm to Essential Energy’s Mulwala Zone Substation.

The contract was finalised on 8 September 2025, following a competitive tender process. Intium was chosen due to its deep experience in delivering complex infrastructure, its expert knowledge across the entire value chain and its ability to often cut through the common industry bottlenecks associated with these types of projects.

Intium was engaged early on, addressing critical aspects of environmental approvals and technical complexity, and will now deliver the full connection scope including design, procurement, installation, testing and commissioning. Throughout the project, the Intium team will work closely with European Energy and Essential Energy to ensure seamless integration into the local network.

The Mulwala Solar Farm is currently scheduled to be energised in 2026, with early works already underway to help accelerate the project, and on-site construction expected to commence in October 2025. This project contributes to the infrastructure Australia needs for a sustainable energy future, not just for the next few years, but for decades to come. It is expected to bring significant benefits to the local community, with initial estimates indicating it could generate enough electricity to power around 20,800 homes and potentially avoid approximately 44,800 tonnes of carbon emissions annually, supporting a more sustainable future.

“This is a significant milestone for Intium and Australia’s transition to renewable energy,” said Babu Kumar, General Manager Engineering & Delivery at Intium. “It reflects the confidence our clients have in our ability to deliver technically complex infrastructure with agility and precision. We worked collaboratively with European Energy to develop a financially viable solution through a transparent process and led key aspects of the planning approvals. This has enabled the project to move at speed, with confidence, and in the spirit of a true partnership.”

“We’re delighted to be working with Intium – a company with a strong record and reliable reputation. The team at Intium have been invaluable in helping us minimise risk and get this complex project up and running,” said Catriona McLeod, European Energy’s Country Manager for Australia.

Nathan Rhodes, Executive General Manager at Intium, said:
“Our mission at Intium is to transform Australia for a clean energy future, and this project is a prime example of our commitment to making that a reality in a cost-effective, innovative, and reliable way. As a collective team, we have over 200 years of combined experience, a local workforce, and cover every step of the value chain. Including project development support, feasibility assessments, technical connections modelling, design and engineering, construction, stakeholder engagement through to operations and maintenance.

This is more than just a contract, it's a significant step toward building the sustainable and resilient energy landscape Australia needs for today, and for the next 50 years.”

Working closely with European Energy, the Intium team offered a flexible suite of commercial model options, providing the most bankable solution through a transparent and collaborative process.
