Frequently Asked Questions
About Intium
Who is Intium and what services do you provide?
Intium is a national specialist in complex transmission and infrastructure delivery for renewable energy projects. We focus on grid connections, commercial EV charging infrastructure, BESS, and high-voltage (HV) infrastructure. We simplify complex projects and enable seamless connection of large-scale renewable and storage assets.
What makes Intium different from other providers?
We partner across the entire project lifecycle — from feasibility and approvals through to commissioning and maintenance. Our approach brings deep grid expertise, strong DNSP and supply-chain relationships, and proven pathways to financial close, backed by innovative delivery and financing models.
Grid Connection
Why is grid connection so complex in Australia?
Grid connection involves technical assessments, compliance, and managing network limitations. Delays often occur due to capacity constraints, modelling requirements and regulatory approvals. Intium streamlines the process by managing feasibility, studies, modelling, testing, commissioning and financial close.
What grid connection services does Intium provide?
We offer end-to-end support including development, studies, engineering, design, construction, commissioning, operations and maintenance. We enable safe, compliant connections to the National Electricity Market for all asset types including solar, wind, mining, data centres, microgrids, hybrid systems and BESS.
Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS)
What is a battery energy storage system (BESS) and why is it important?
BESS stores energy for use during high demand or when renewable generation is variable. It reduces costs, improves resilience, and supports renewable integration. Intium engineers and delivers BESS projects at commercial and utility scale.
How does Intium integrate BESS into energy projects?
We design BESS solutions that complement EV charging, solar and wind projects. Co-locating BESS with generation or charging hubs reduces grid strain, improves utilisation and future-proofs energy networks.
Renewable Energy Infrastructure
What makes Intium a leading renewable energy infrastructure provider?
We integrate grid connection, BESS, balance-of-plant and HV delivery into one collaborative partner. While others focus on single components, Intium provides an end-to-end model that accelerates renewable adoption and de-risks delivery.
Why choose Intium over other renewable energy providers?
Our value-engineering approach, DNSP relationships and national capability help clients secure financial close faster. Backed by a state-owned corporation and decades of experience, we support the full lifecycle from development to operations and maintenance.
Commercial EV Charging Infrastructure
What is commercial EV charging infrastructure and how does Intium deliver it?
Commercial EV infrastructure supports business, fleet and public network electrification. Intium delivers turnkey solutions including site assessment, grid connection, installation, commissioning and maintenance.
What is the difference between commercial and public charging?
Commercial charging is typically depot-based for fleets. Public charging is for general use in locations such as shopping centres or LGAs. Intium tailors both models to support emission targets and the transition to electric mobility.
High Voltage Infrastructure
What high voltage infrastructure does Intium deliver?
We design, procure, construct, operate and maintain HV infrastructure at 66kV, 132kV, 330kV and above — including substations, switching stations and transmission assets for renewable, industrial and commercial projects.
Who requires high voltage infrastructure?
Mining, data centres, industrial operators and renewable developers require HV assets to connect large loads to the grid. Intium provides flexible models including BOOM, DBOOM, BOOT, EPC, EPCM, D&C and ECI.
